    Day Forteen
@.@ I hate writing on weekends. BAH, family. Okay, so they need me, and I love them, but one day I'm going to lock my door and do the emo "playing music really loudly to ignore them while I write angst-tastic things" thing, and that will show them. It might be more effective if the music weren't highly likely to be country.

I meant to post about this before, but it completely slipped my mind. We lost one of the puppies. :( As far as we can tell, Zippo accidentally suffocated and then ate him. (We are assuming he was eaten, seeing as we can't find a body, but we did find a mysteriously bloody spot in a box of old rags, and Zippo had bloody paws.) At least, we're hoping that's the way it happened, because if she just ate him then we're likely to lose another one, and maybe both. She's really bad about not laying on them, though, so maybe...

Anyway, less depressing news: NaNo. Writing wasn't easy today, even taking out family-based reasons, but I think that's because it's combining my two weaknesses: Steve PoV and Action. We are now firmly in the Dramatic Climax arena, though, so there's nothing I can do about that except slog onward. Using the reward system helped a bit (every 100 words I gave myself some mint M&Ms), but not much. The End Is Nigh, however, and it looks like I am actually going to write my very first story that tops 50k. \o/ Unless all of my characters mysteriously die sometime soon, there's almost no way I can tie up the loose threads in less than another 5,000 words. This is very exciting, since previously all of my stories topped out at roughly 20k.

This has been incredibly different from normal writing. Not just in the "sit down, stop whining and keep going" way, since I got used to that back in college, but in the way it developed. Looking back at my now almost completely redundant outline, I had a ton of filler material. The story itself is really pretty straight forward. I also picked an event driven plot, when usually I go for character driven, so that was new (and painful), so I did need a hard outline of what happened in what order, even though I ended up veering wildly from it. But I had room to play, to toddle after a tossed one-liner and see where it went. The characters had room to expand, and dear gods did they expand. I'm noticing patterns in my writing that I never have before (I need to stop using the "he did X, and then he did Y" sentence format), and also finding out things about my own headspace that actually make me feel a little uncomfortable (I enjoy hurting my characters in creative fashions way way way too much).

Even if I end up sitting down in a year, when I have some more objectivity, and deciding that this story is utter crap, I'm glad I did it. It broke my head open and let me poke at all the gooey things that spilled out.

Okay, now that I'm done rambling, totals! Total word count: 46,740, which means I wrote 3,722 words today! Tomorrow, assuming all goes well, I will top 50k. *\o/* I barely managed to touch three quotas, but it counts, so ha! Spoilers, ect, does anyone care or am I just paranoid? Also, warnings! Torture. Violence. Blood.

ALSO!! Before I was just throwing around the idea of going back to school just cos I was kinna bored and unsatisfyed with my art and the fact that I was becoming "complacent", but I think I really am going to go back to school now. [info]cambryn and her friend Matt took me to Gemini School of Art and man, it is perfect. We did a little portfolio review with the owners and just talked with them for a couple hours and it was really inspiring, I feel like if I did do the course there, all the missing pieces would be filled in, and I could get a job anywhere. Anyway, dunno how I could pay for it but I'm just excited, I hope I can figure out a way to get in.

    Ribbon lacing
All right. I've spent the last couple of years happily using nice sturdy shoelace-looking stuff to lace my corsets. But my husband has increased the number of his wistful mentions of how much prettier ribbon lacing is of late, and since I'm about to order a batch of materials for sewing, I guess it's time to figure out how to bring ribbon lacing out of the realm of dreams for him. However, I don't really know much about what to use, or where to get it.

I know one wants to use double-faced satin ribbon, but is there a particular fabric content that's preferable? Will anything do, or are there preferred brands? And if it's a more esoteric type of ribbon, where does one get it? I'm in Baltimore (regrettably), so I do pretty much all my shopping for such things online, since nearly all we have is JoAnn up here.

Obviously I'm a bit clueless here, so any advice would be welcome. Thank you!

    Day Thirteen
    See Icon.

Today was not a good day at all for writing. Not only did words not want to come, but work is finally on to me. Every time words started to happen, I got a phone call that interrupted me just long enough to break the flow. They didn't even have the decency to be real problems. I must have had five variations of "sit on the phone for twenty minutes while someone rambles at me about "I don't know what to do so I click this and then that and I press here and there it goes thanks for your time".

    SIGH.

On top of that, I was cold enough that my wrist warmers did nothing. Typing got awkward. I remembered to do my weekly shopping on the way home though, so tomorrow it will be me and wooooooords. Most of today's writing got done at home, really. I hope to hit the golden 50k this weekend. I'm at the downhill part of the battle here, so we'll see. (hopehopehope)

Totals are a bit dismal, compared to the last few days. I hit 43,018 words, so I only wrote 3,002. But you know, that's still more than a single day's quota, and I did manage a quota. So I am content. Also sleepy. But content.

Waist Training Corset, Male Waist Training Corset and other questions.
Ahhh...first thing is first. And that first thing seems like a LOT.
Ive been making corsets for almost 2 years. Only made 6 so far. Still having issues with making them really cause I cant seem to find a way of drafting a pattern that Wont turn out way smaller than I intended.
I want to make myself a waist training corset. I'm looking for about 2-3 inches reduction total when I'm finished. I finally feel like I'm ready for the commitment.
Although I keep running into the same problems over and over again.
1.)I ALWAYS get puckering and wrinkles no matter how hard I try to fix them they always come back!!
2.)It always turns out about an inch to 2 inches smaller than I intend it to for some reason.

I'm really looking to make an underbust waist training corset that goes all the way over my stomach and is durable.
I've also been wondering about construction methods for some time. I just never seem to understand in the other posts I read. What exactly is the seemingly best way (or I should say, cleanest looking way) to make a corset. All of mine always turn out frayed on the inside for one reason or the other (still trying to work on finding a way to stop that) and I really want this corset to look as clean and be as comfortable as possible. I think one of my main problems is my proportions. My waist is 32 (looking to get down to 29) and my hips are 39.5 inches I believe. It seems to make it extremely difficult to sew properly without wrinkles and especially when inserting boning channels and stuff.
I'm basically doing this for prom and for my own personal reasons. I really want my corset for prom to be smaller than my current waist size. (which that prom corset also brings up another huge problem with me. But that's for later I guess.)
Blah..I think my thoughts are trailing off a bit. Stupid Americas Funniest Videos lol.

    Anyways...that's my first dilemma.

My second one happens to be my boyfriends christmas present. Also to help with prom.
He wants me to make him a corset vest to wear under every day clothing. He wants to help his posture and try to reduce his waist a bit.. This would also come along with exercise when he's not wearing it. He really really wants to make himself look as good as possible so he can "do me justice" with my dress design. (can be seen here: http://i154.photobucket.com/albums/s266/xxRED__EMxx/l_561a9fd9d1ed451cbf1a569c3b3395-1.jpg)
He says he's fat, even though he really only has a little bit of baggage. But I really wanna make him feel as good as possible about himself.
How would I go about making this for him? How would I even begin to draft a pattern like that for him that brings in his lower half, goes over his stomach, but doesnt pull his ribs in too much? The main issue is below the ribs. His ribs are also pretty far out compared to his stomach.
I just need some general idea on how to even start this o.0
    Yay trying new things? haha
Anyways, anyone who replies to this, thank you. I greatly appreciate any help.

    Dear Yuletide Author
Hello, dear Yuletide Author! Oh, what an exciting time it is! Thank you so much for volunteering to write one of my fandoms, and I sincerely hope that you have a good (for relative values of 'good') time writing my story. :)

I know that some authors like lots of details from their recipients, and some like none at all. I'm going to give you a fair amount of detail about what I like in stories, and some of what I'm looking for from each particular fandom, but of course you're welcome to write whatever works for you. Also, if the fandom you offered isn't particularly pinging for you, I've included a little bit about each fandom in case you're inspired to check into those.

One quick thing: Somehow I've managed to ask for slash (well, slash and a mixed threesome) in all of my requests this year. If slash isn't your thing, that's totally okay! I like gen friendship/buddy stories, too! And slash doesn't necessarily mean sex and/or love to me, either. If you write something that's in between slash and friendship, my feelings won't be hurt at all. With that in mind, though, under the cut I'm going to talk quite a bit about the slashy theme. Please translate that into "gen friendship" as necessary.

General stuff about what I like and don't )

    Fandom specifics:

AI Season 8 - Krim for the win! )

    The Rundown: Beck/Travis )

    Vampires: Los Muertos: Derek/Rodrigo )

    White Collar: Elizabeth/Neal/Peter )

And there you go. My apologies for the tl;dr. Good yuletiding to you!

    Embroidered Overbust Corset
I wanted to share images of this long line over-bust corset that I made for a lovely bride few months back.

    large photos )

this corset is made from a fantastic embroidered sage green silk taffeta backed with coutil. It is lined in brocade coutil. Steel boned throughout; a mixture of spring and steel depending on where it is placed on the body. It features a gold busk and eyelets, a front busk protective panel and a boned modesty panel. The trim is silk taffeta and matches the wedding skirt that I made to match. The pattern was drafted from scratch to her measurements.

The fabric was difficult to match because the pattern was placed in two narrow rows in the middle of the fabric and had a large repeat that did not mirror. The embroidery caused the fabric to warp and pull in places so it was challenging to create a smooth corset. I'm very pleased with this piece.

    Thanks for having a look!

My backyard was out to get me last night. I was taking the trash out to the can, and as I was walking down my deck steps in the dark, my foot encountered one of my kids play-things. I was lucky enough to stop myself from falling flat on my face and then tossed the toy into the yard where it would be out of my way. At the gate, I tripped over this huge rock that Aeris probably rolled there from one of the gardens…so I returned it to its home.

I put the trash by the curb and then returned to the deck to collect the recycling bin. On my way down the steps, I lost my footing on some wet leaves and went crashing down to the cement while trying to put the back of my head through the cement wall of my basement. Bottles and cans tumbled on top of me as I came to rest at the foot of the stairs, head throbbing. I stood up and decided to give up on the recycling because I didn’t want to add glass cuts to my list of injuries for the evening.

I went inside and had Izzy check the back of my head to make sure I didn’t need to go to the emergency room for some awful gash, cleaned and bandaged my foot where I scraped some skin off and went to bed.

    Stupid Friday the 13th.

P.S. – On my way in to work, this guy in front of my drove through a red light without pause and I thought I was colorblind until I saw the light change to green. It freaked me out for a moment.

Head still hurts, but it is to be expected, I suppose.

In unrelated news, I won a pair of "designer sunglasses" at a heath fair my work hosted. They don't seem to have a brand label on them and they are made out of plastic, but the little tag says they were priced at $120 so I don't know. They look like a pair of $15 ones I could buy off of a rack at Wal-Mart...although they did come in a leather case.

    Pattern Drafting Question
So, some of the suggested "make your own corset patterns" I see have everything cut in a smooth curve while others use a straight line and sharp corners. Do you know what difference the two approaches give? Do the sharper corners make for more dramatic curves (like in the black corset posted right before this)?

    Thanks for your advice.

    Dreams
Has anyone else ever woken up earlier than planned, but late enough to not be able to get back to sleep proper? I woke up this morning but I wasn't done dreaming yet. I dreamt that Puffy was dead and that I was driving a car. There were others, too, many others, but I can't recall. All I do know is that they were a horde of things so mundane that it was notable that I would even dream about them. I woke up almost affronted that this was what my subconscious had to offer.

I don't recall what else I dreamt of in that indeterminate time between half-waking and actually rising, but I remember it was more of the same. Such ordinary minutia that mattered so little to me, it was almost maddening that I was having to dream it.
